The Griddler's A lot of Uses
Speak to GrillUse the Griddler as a speak to grill to cook burgers, boneless pieces of meat and thin cuts of meat and vegetables. The get in touch with grill function works best when you want to cook something in a brief quantity of time or when you are searching for a healthy approach of grilling. When cooked on the get in touch with grill, food will cook immediately since you are grilling both sides of the food at the exact same time. The ribs on the grill side of the plates, combined with the grease spout at the rear of the plate, let the grease to drip from the meat and drain off the plates. When the Griddler is applied as a get in touch with grill, the grill side of plates is proposed. Rest the cover evenly on top of the food until it has reached the desired cooked temperature. The Griddler was created with a unique handle and hinge that enable the cover to adjust to the thickness of the food. You can easily grill anything from a thinly sliced potato to a thick sirloin steak with even results. When cooking additional than 1 food item in the contact grill, it is important that the thickness of food items is consistent so the cover will close evenly on the food.
Panini PressUse the Griddler as a panini press to grill sandwiches, breads, and quesadillas. The sandwich is pressed among two grill or griddle plates to toast the bread and warm the sandwich. We suggest employing fresh-baked bread to create the ideal tasting panini. When the Griddler is utilized as a panini press, the grill side of the plates is advised. We suggest the grill side of the plates given that conventional style panini sandwiches have grill marks on the bread. Yet, based upon the type of sandwich you are preparing, you may perhaps wish to use the griddle side of the plates or any combination of the two. The Griddler functions as a panini press in the exact same manner that it functions as a make contact with grill. The Griddler was developed with a exceptional deal with and hinge that allow the cover to adjust to the thickness of the sandwich you are preparing, and to rest there evenly. Light pressure can be applied to the deal with to press and heat the sandwich to your liking.
Full GrillUse the Griddler as a full grill to cook burgers, steak, poultry (we do not advocate cooking bone-in chicken, given that it does not cook evenly on a full grill), fish, and vegetables. Complete grill refers to working with the Griddler with the cover lying flat, creating a double, flat cooking surface. In this position, the foods you are grilling will have to be turned more than for cooking. When the Griddler is utilised as a full grill, the grill side of the plates will need to be applied. Cooking on the complete grill is the most versatile system of making use of the Griddler. With the full grill, you have double the surface area (200 square inches) for grilling. You have the choice of cooking distinctive sorts of foods on separate plates with out combining their flavors, or cooking significant amounts of the exact same type of food. The full grill also accommodates numerous cuts of meats with varying thickness, permitting you to cook every single piece to your liking.
Complete GriddleUse the Griddle as a full griddle to cook pancakes, eggs, French toast, hash browns, and breakfast meats. When you use the Griddler as a complete griddle, open the cover so it lies flat, creating a double, flat cooking surface. In this position, the foods you are preparing will have to be turned over for cooking. When using this cooking function, the griddle side of the plates must be made use of. Cooking on the complete griddle is a splendid way to prepare breakfast for two or for a substantial family members. The massive surface region enables you to cook a range of unique foods at the same time, or significant amounts of your preferred food.
Half Grill/Half GriddleUse the Griddler as a half grill/half griddle in order to develop complete meals like bacon and eggs or steak and potatoes at the similar time. When using the Griddler as a half grill/half griddle, merely place the unit in the flat position and insert a single plate with the grill side facing up and a further plate with the griddle side facing up. This cooking selection allows you to use either the grill/panini temperature or the griddle temperature selector.
To Insert Cooking Plates
Adjust the Griddler to the flat position with the controls straight in front of you. Insert a single plate at a time. Every single plate is created to fit in either the upper housing or the lower housing of the Griddler. If you are facing the Griddler, the drip spout should certainly be at the rear of the plate. Locate the metal brackets at the center of the housing. Tilt the back finish of the plate and line up the cutouts at the back of the plate with metal brackets. Slide the plate underneath the brackets and push down the front finish of the plate. It will snap into location. Turn the Griddler about and insert the second plate on either its grill or griddle side into the upper housing as you did with the initial plate.

Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler
Client Evaluations
I bought a G4 Griddler from Amazon in 2005, and implemented it a couple of occasions a week (at least) till it had to be put out to pasture in 2010 due to failure of the non-stick coating on the plates. (The coating began to bubble and peel, and no one particular desires that in their food...) I loved it. (See my assessment of the Cuisinart GR-four Griddler Stainless-Steel four-in-1 Grill/Griddle and Panini Press) It was nevertheless operating awesome, but replacement plates had been not attainable.
I was elated when presented the opportunity to evaluation its smarter younger brother, the GR-4NAM Griddler. I could hardly wait for it to get right here and run it through its paces.
At very first glance, the GR-4NAM looks virtually identical to the G4. Having said that, closer inspection reveals that it has been completely redesigned, and for the much better.
Improvement: The grease catcher put to use to be a little cup that had to be set below a spout on the side of the bottom plate. If it was positioned incorrectly, (or forgotten about), greased dripped out on the counter. The grease catcher is now integrated into the Griddler as a drawer-like device that can be pulled out to clean, and then put back in place for the next use.
Improvement: The original G4 had two sets of plates - a single flat set, 1 ridged set (for paninis). There is now a single reversible set of plates (ridged on one side, flat on the other), and hence no need to have to uncover a storage place for the plates not in use. The new plates have a beneficial substantial weight. I don't have the old ones here for comparison, but the top quality of the plates certainly was not cheapened.
Improvement: It employed to be a small tricky to put the plates in place and to get rid of them. There was also a distinction between the leading plate and the bottom, so you had to be careful not to attempt to put them in the wrong way. The plates now have an identical shape, so they are interchangeable, and the release buttons activate a spring-loaded mechanism that pops the plate loose for simple and easy removal.
Now, to see how it cooks: The Griddler takes about as lengthy to warm up as a great-top quality waffle iron. Just when you start to get impatient with it, it really is ready.
The initial thing that I cooked was a no-no in the eyes of Cuisinart - a bone-in, skin-on leg and thigh chicken quarter. Too thick, they say. HA! says I, due to the fact I am a bit of an anarchist. I marinated the chicken in olive oil and rosemary, heated the Griddler to Medium. I cooked it on the panini plates mainly because I appreciate those small fake barbeque stripes across my food. It worked just fine. (I should have taken a image, it came out seeking gorgeous. But I was hungry.)
Word of warning: Do not cook thick or fatty meat on High - you will get grease spatters all over the spot. Medium functions just fine in such instances.
I found from my old Griddler that when cooking meat it really is greatest to turn off the heat ahead of it's done, and let it finish cooking with the residual heat in the plates. That way the meat does not get overdone.
For clean-up, I let the plates cool down, and then put a wet paper towel across the bottom plate and close the lid and let it sit for a when. The dampness softens anything that is stuck to the plates, and then it can be very easily washed off with a sudsy sponge or dish wand.
Nowadays for lunch, I created myself a sandwich with sliced sourdough bread, cooked sliced chicken breast, fresh grated parmesan cheese and dried basil. I followed the panini directions in the small cookbook that comes with the Griddler. Well, I sort of followed the directions... Cuisinart recommends brushing the outside of the sandwich with olive oil. I prefer to use melted butter on panini simply because it tends to make the sandwich crisper.
I preheated the Griddler on High, placed the sandwich inside, and applied light pressure for about 30 seconds, and then let it cook. The directions say to cook panini for about 4 -5 minutes, but my sandwich was ready to eat in two minutes. Possibly the butter tends to make the bread brown faster than olive oil.
In any case, it was amazing - evenly browned, crunchy and delicious, and I did take a picture (see item images).
How durable will the GR-4NAM be? Great question. From anything that I can see so far, Cuisinart has only created the Griddler better. But time is the real test of superior. I will report back from time to time relating to durability.
Perfect now, I'd say this looks like an outstanding purchase.
UPDATE, January 2011:
The Griddler is still in outstanding shape. Granted, I am not applying it as frequently as I did my original one, but that's for the reason that there are fewer mouths to feed in my household now than there applied to be. I have no cautionary tales to add to the critique. Hmmm... I believe I'll go make a grilled cheese sandwich....
We have had this item for more than 1 year. This product has a few of awesome attributes:
1. The interchangeable nonstick plates that are dishwasher safe.
two. The unit opens up to a substantial griddle.
3. The cooking plates are dishwasher secure.
But, the nonstick surface has started peeling off of the plates even although the plates have never ever been abused, and we have in no way employed metal utensils on them.
Our largest complaint is the thermostat. The unit will reach the desired temperature, and then turn off. The cooking plates will basically cool off so a lot that the food will quit cooking. The thermostat will then kick back on and take about 3-five minutes to get back up to temperature. It is really annoying, and does not generally create superior outcomes with food.
There also is a substantial temperature difference between the two plates when the unit is opened as a massive griddle. This causes items getting cooked to finish at distinct occasions.
This could have been a good item, but Cuisinart seems to have gone "low-cost" in locations that are integral to the function of the griddle. I would not purchase this item again.
